The Power of Images

This is a Dove commerical called Evolution - it’s wonderful and depressing at the same time. Watching this piece raised strong conflicting opinions I didn’t know I had.

One one hand, I’m pleased the commercial shows the ‘real’ woman, blemishes and all, along with her transformation.

On the other hand, I’m angry the ‘real’ woman is nothing close to the ‘created’!

It means all those jokes we make about advertisers altering ‘reality’ to sell more product, especially to women, is true! Gah! Even worse, all that reality altering made/makes me, and a million other women, feel like slugs. Who doesn’t remember those difficult teen years? How many women were hard on ourselves because we couldn’t make ourselves look like the girls on the cover of Seventeen magazine?

The Battleship 5K

Battleship North Carolina

I signed up for my first run since leaving Seattle. I did a few 5Ks there and they were fun.

Sadly, all I’ve managed to do in NC is take up ‘drunk’ smoking, eating fried foods regularly, hanging out in my house because it’s too humid or buggy to be outside, and whine about not living in an active lifestyle-focused community.

On November 12th I will be running in the Battleship 5K Charity event to raise money for ship maintenance and my local YMCA (both need all the cash they can get, poor things!)

This crazy impulsive sign-up all stems from the goal setting post about Saint-Exupery some time back. He made me ponder, that bastard.

I’m telling all of you that I’m running in hopes I will get my hieney outside so I’ll be ready by November 12. I also committed money by signing up. That should help too.

Wish me luck!

Xombie - The Coolest Shite On the Planet

Xombiefied.com

OK kids…I’m sure all you hep cats have been in the know since day one but leetle old me over here is just now learning about Xombie.

OMG! I am in love. OK - maybe love is a strong word but I must insist on saying I feel strong LIKE for this graphic novel thingy. The voices, the look, the excellent story-line (is this hyphenated?) and the characters! Ya know a story is good when you have cool small female character, cool dog character and cool female Eqyptian kick-ass ninja-thing. Oh, and the music is cool and the main character, Dirge. So, my point is I like it ALOT! I’m even splurging some scarce funds to buy some schwag! Yikes! I’m living la vida loca!

So go there now and check it out. There are 8 chapters of the story ready for watching!

I can’t wait for chapter 9! OK…technically I can because I have to but you get my point.

Hurry up! Shoo! Go there now!

The To-Do List

I’m a notorious to-do lister. Sadly, I’m not a to-do lister completer (is that a word?!). I love making lists and then maybe, MAYBE I’ll get a few things on it done. But mostly, it just sits on my desk nagging me and mocking me openly. They’re evil little creatures once born. Watch out for them!

What does your to-do list look like? Here’s mine:

1) Plan the week’s meal - try to get out of my food rut of same old thing.

2) Plant the rest of the azaleas.

3) Finish removing the rocks from flower beds.

4) Buy landscape timber.

5) Seal the front window before more storms come.

6) Call the window company about broken latch and keeper (don’t tell robbers!).

7) Write some more posts and catch up withblog reading.

8) Thank yous to everyone who donated to my AHA walk.

9) Gym - 5K is two weeks away and I’m not gonna be last behind some grandma!

10) Clothes shopping - JCPenney is having big sale - I’m poor so stop laughing please.

11) Review Latin chapter 1 and DO chapter 2 already!

12) Laundry.

13) Clean my bathroom - ick!

14) Buy an edger.

15) Buy mold remover for the exterior vinyl.

16) Try and have some non-work/productivity fun. I don’t know what yet - library? bookstore? movie?

17) Get Costco membership.

18) Study real estate chapters 1 thru 6. Try to do tests at end of chapters.

19) Eat Thai food with my Auntie M for her birthday!

20) Debate whether or not I’m actually going to get cable.

21) Attend Halloween costume party and try not to leave early or make an ass of myself.

High-larious Stuff From Defective Yeti

If y’all haven’t cruised over to Defective Yeti to grab a few chuckles, then you’re dumb.

Just kidding! :)

You’re just missing out on great fun! Here’s my latest fav - another example of Matthew making me laugh out loud…and then giggle to myself for the rest of the day but most especially during meetings which makes my boss and coworkers think I am drunk, stoned or crazy.
