Once I finally got going out of Chicago I was a mere 3 hours behind schedule.
OK - no worries. Pilot said we could make it up in the air and I had
lots of fun stuff to occupy my head. Or so I thought.
The plane was packed and we didn’t make it up in the air. And for some
reason, I just could not get comfy and sleep. Which is weird because
I’ve never had a problem before.
(Non sequitor - CBB is SO snoring on the couch while I type this. Her
and H are napping before we King Tut tonite.)
I finally made it to Heathrow but feeling very unwell. I was getting
one of those horrible no-sleep-migraines. I needed to get to H’s flat
quick before I got sick. Sadly no driver to pick me up!
It took me about 10 minutes to figure out how to use the phones and
how to dial the number. I asked a nice old man and he helped me do
everything. Yay! Thanks Mr. Old Guy!
So, H got on the phone and took the driver people to task. Low and
behold, driver shows up 10 minutes later. Yay!
Then I’m off to the flat. Even though I am not a local nor an expert
on getting into Central London, that drive had to be THE longest, most
convoluted trip into London. I think it tool over an hour and there
was no traffic…at all. Egads! I almost made a rude remark along the
lines of ‘Well, why we’re on our way to France how about stopping in
at the Cliff’s of Dover so I can have a look?’ But I withheld and
suffered in silence.
Finally I arrive at H’s flat. It’s a lovely posh do on Westminster
Bridge Road. The London Eye can be seen from every window! Quite nice.
And it’s decorated all super modern. I like it. Did I mention how HUGE
it is?! Good gawd! She’s a lucky woman! The company is paying for it.
I personally like that setup. I really need to get my stock market
groove on so I can live in a posh flat too.
Once in the lovely posh flat, the migraine monster took over. I tried
to fight the nausea but lost. I got sick and was so for way too long.
Boo.
Poor CBB must think I’m frail because she rang the bell right in the
middle of my being sick. Not pretty. She too had a rough flight as
well. Once I was finally feeling less horrible, we both settled in for
a lovely afternoon nap while waiting till H got off work.
We really didn’t have much energy upon waking. Poor H was fighting a
cold too, so all we managed to do was unpack, grocery shop and nosh on
some yummy Indian food. Then we all headed back to the flat and
crashed hard.
Not the way I would have preferred to start off Adventure ‘08 but just
being in London with two of my closest friends is really all I need.
Day Two promises more scintillating reading. Or so I hope!
Till then…
