New Photo Space

Greetings and salutations, gentle reader.

Just a quick note to let you know that I’m tired of tweaking and twonking all sorts of code in my attempt to provide a slick and impressive photo gallery page for your viewing pleasure.

Instead, I’m taking the lazy, yet effective, way out and merely providing a text link to my Flickr account. There you can view all my sets and leave snarky remarks at your leisure. No, it’s not as refined and urbane as I am but it works.

You’ll find said link on the left sidebar just below the bumblebee picture. It’s called “The Photos”.

I know! So creative I am.

An Oldie But a Goodie

Gentle reader, give thanks to lovely SD over at The Lowdown for sending me this little gem from way back in the day. If you don’t know who Strong Bad and HomestarRunner are you MUST go and visit. Get in the know! It’s good clean silly fun. An excellent pick me up during the drudgery that sometimes is “life in the modern world”.

Anyhoo, this video is especially high-larry-us since I am known as the “techno lover” amongst many of my friends.

Really, gentle reader, it’s all a big misunderstanding. See, I’m all about the trance and progressive house when dancing, with a side of what’s now called cybergoth aka industrial. All distinctly BETTER forms of electronica.

But I don’t wanna break their little hearts and ruin the fun by telling them I don’t like the techno. They get so much enjoyment from making light switch rave and glow stick jokes.

OK, I liked techno maybe for a week back in ‘89… maybe two weeks… maybe

:)

Welsh Flag
You may remember, gentle reader, back some time ago I wrote a post about my part-time hobby of tracing my genealogy. My sister-in-law and I have made some progress and it seems the family is mostly UK-ish. We’ve found a Welsh bit and some Irish bits along with a healthy dose of English and Scottish bits. Maybe that explains my Anglophilia!

Anyway, old birds, I found this VERY interesting article challenging the origins of the Welsh. Maybe this explains that odd genetic disease that runs in my family, thalassemia. According to those in the know, thalassemia is most prevalent in Mediteranean, Middle Eastern and Asian populations. How could we have such a disease if all our peeps are UK pale faces? Weren’t most UKers from Scandanavia or Germany or some such? I was sure we were missing something. And now I know! That whole Welsh bit is the reason some us of us have that peculiar trait since our long lost cousins came out of Portugal and Spain. Einterestink, no?

It’s nice to see this little blurb since I always wondered about the veracity of what few records we’ve found on the origins of the family.

Hwyl fawr.

Noodling with the Stock Options

Some time ago, last fall to be exact, my brother and I attended a stock options trading class. It was fairly groovy and I learned a ton. The possible income boost it would provide me was mind-boggling!

Since then, we both have been virtual trading at OptionsXpress to practice what we learned. The bro went on and signed up for the fancy-pants advanced training course which cost a cool $7K. Gak! I was not able to go due to financial limitations.

But never fear, gentle reader, the brother has been kind enough to share his learnings and insights with me. We both continue to practice and discuss why we pick what we pick and all the technical chart analysis, geeky finance stuff ad nauseum.

So, I started off last fall really strong and didn’t lose too much of my virtual money. But then I got distracted with the holidays and then spring came and it was all about the traveling. So I let my virtual trades die. Bummer. I lost all my virtual investment. Boooo!

My brother had to kick me in the shins to get me remotivated. Thank you, big bro for that. I shall not slack again. Promise.

So I’ve popped back into the trading over the last couple of months after reading TONS of books, blogs and websites. I’m practicing lots before I use real money (again!). And you know what? I’m a pretty good stock picker (way better than the big bro-still smarting on his ACH pick). I’m surprised because I was convinced that I had to know all sorts of financial hooey to “get” trading. You got to know some, but not as much as I thought.

Plus, it helps HUGE to have a wonderful pile of option bloggers to teach you and provide much needed ideas for the stock picking such as MyTradersJournal, OptionAddict, TradingGoddess, and DailyOptionsReport to name a few.

But I really have to thank OptionAddict aka Jeff Kohler, for his fine explanations and fabby watchlists. I have made over $3K in the last two weeks because of his recommendations. Plus, I have learned a ton of excellent trading tactics which, so far, have been spot on! Thanks Jeff!

Man, I wish it was real money. ;)
